In 2015, 193 United Nations (UN) Member States adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), which these goals came into effect on January 1st, 2016. Although the Member States are not legally bound to these goals, there have been some noticeable efforts toward achieving these goals.
Sustainable Development is the central challenge of our times. It is a way of looking at the world, focusing on the interlinkages of economic, social, and environmental change and describing our shared aspirations for a decent life. Our world is under strain. Poverty continues to plague communities and families. Climate change threatens livelihoods. Conflicts are raging. Inequalities are deepening. These crises will only worsen unless we change course.
In this program, we will understand that Sustainable Development Leadership is not about occupying job titles or having the pleasure of spending the budget, being superior to others, and assigning and relocating employees. Nevertheless, it is a responsibility that is ethically bound, and the decisions taken as Sustainable Development Leader will impact everyone now and in the future, either directly or indirectly, in the short-term or long-term, positively or negatively.
We must understand how sustainable development can be achieved in practice and in all parts of the world.
